Background: Tikal lived peacefully among her race of Echidnas, until their leader (Pachacamac, who happened to be Tikal's father) decided to use the Master Emerald as a weapon against humanity. Chaos (a creature who lived among them), not standing for this, absorbed the ancient Chaos Emeralds, turning into Perfect Chaos and destroying all of the Echidnas. Tikal then sacrificed herself to absorb the energies from Chaos, spreading the Emeralds around the island as a result. Once she did this, her brother Nakbé sealed Chaos in the Master Emerald, becoming it's guardian as a result. Years later, Tikal appeared spiritually to guide Sonic Rider and his friends, and then met Sonic in the afterlife when he was killed, informing him of a way to get back to life.
